Welcome. I am Meggan Watson and I am pleased to offer psychotherapy services to clients in the greater Houston area. Please review the information on this website, and I encourage you to contact me with any questions you may have or to schedule an appointment.
I specialize in treating depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders and personality disorders. I treat children and adults over the age of 11 using Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which is a modification of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive treatment approach for people who have intense emotions they are unable to manage in constructive ways. DBT provides a way out of suffering through effective and skillful means of regulating emotions and dealing with painful situations. The client will learn skills in the areas of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT is an evidence-based treatment, meaning it has been proven to be effective in research trials.
My primary focus is to help clients stop behaviors that are destroying or interfering with their lives and help them build a life worth living.
The therapeutic relationship is supportive, honest, validating and direct.
My professional style is not the "blank slate" you may have seen or experienced previously. I use humor, am authentic about my reactions to client behaviors and tell anecdotes from my own life to assist in teaching skills.
I appreciate the importance of working with psychiatrists and other physicians, nutritionists and referring clinicians to coordinate care. While I do not contract with insurance companies, I do assist my clients by providing detailed receipts to submit to their insurance carriers for reimbursement. Practicing this way allows me to focus on providing my clients with the most substantial and clinically focused quality care. Additionally, it ensures complete client confidentiality for clients who elect not to notify their insurance carriers and employers.
